Dendritic cells (DCs) are a promising immunotherapy tool for boosting an individual’s immune response to cancer. In this talk, I will describe how we can use mathematical models to describe the interactions between dendritic cells, effector-immune cells and tumor cells. In order to design an efficient treatment strategy, clinicians need to answer three questions: How much? How often? Who will respond? Our models, along with a variety of mathematical tools, can be used to suggest answer to these questions.
The goal of this talk is to highlight some recent results, and to give some insight into the potential role of mathematics in studying hte immune response to cancer; no advanced knowledge of immunology or dynamical systems will be assumed.
