Initial Math Placement Assessment

In response to COVID-19, VCU has temporarily waived proctored ALEKS PPL assessments. You are able to complete an un-proctored assessment to receive a Math Placement Score. The Respondus Lockdown Browser is required. You may disregard any references to proctored assessment until the situtation returns to normal.

The Initial Math Placement Assessment is for you to get familiar with the software and to give you an idea of where your current math knowledge is. You have 2 hours to complete the Initial Placement Assessment. If you need to exit the Initial Placement Assessment for any reason, you will be able to log back in and pick up where you left off if done within 2 hours of starting. If you have not completed the Initial Placement Assessment within 2 hours, you will have to restart the Initial Placement Assessment.

Please note that a proctored Placement Assessment has a 2 (two) hour time limit.

You will need to schedule an appointment with the Campus Learning Center for your PROCTORED Math Placement Assessment. We encourage you to take the Initial Math Placement Assessment before taking a proctored Math Placement Assessment. Only a  proctored Math Placement Assessment may be used to determine your Math Placement Score.

Your registration in ALEKS PPL includes access to ONE Prep and Learning Module. You are automatically assigned a Prep and Learning Module based on your first Placement Assessment results. Once you start a Prep and Learning Module you will NOT be able to change it. At which time you will have to spend time in the Prep and Learning Module before taking the next assessment.

Your Placement Assessment for Math Placement Score purposes MUST be proctored.
